Click Off Bird Photo Contest

The San Francisco Bay Bird Observatory (SFBBO) is delighted to announce its first annual Click Off, a photo contest highlighting the bird and habitat diversity found in the Bay Area and beyond. The Click Off is a great way for you to share your best photos and win valuable prizes – including incredible  photo workshops and display space at the Don Edwards Wildlife Refuge Environmental Education Center – all while supporting SFBBO, an organization dedicated to the conservation of birds and their habitats through science and outreach. Winners will be selected from six categories including:
  • Birds in their Habitat
  • Bird Portraits
  • Bird Behavior
  • Endangered SpeciesHuman Interaction,Birds of the World. 

Participants can begin submitting images to the SFBBO on July 27th, 2009. Submission must be received before October 9th, 2009.

“Scenes of Summer” Photo Contest on WeArePhotographers.com

One of our members,  Stephen Terlizzi, has started a new website called http://www.wearephotographers.com

Their first content theme is “Scenes of Summer.”  The first 750 entries have the chance to win great prizes and get their entries judged by local prestigious judges.

Prizes from from Keeble & Shuchat photo store in Palo Alto:

  • First prize: $1500 in merchandise
  • Second prize: $500 in merchandise
  • Third prize: $250 in merchandise
  • Up to five additional awards of recognition

The competition judges are:

  • Gary Fong: Genesis Photo Agency, Former Director of Photography SF Chronicle, Pulitzer Prize winner
  • Kim Komenich: Asst. Professor of Multimedia at SJSU, Former photographer at SF Chronicle, Pulitzer Prize winner
  • Tom Kennedy: Kennedy Media, Former AME Washington Post Online, Director of Photography for National Geographic Magazine

Become Environmental Photographer Of The Year

CIWEM’s Environmental Photographer of the Year has already received hundreds of entries from photographers in over 30 countries, including Hungary, Poland, Bangladesh, Serbia, Israel, Bulgaria, Pakistan, The Netherlands, Zimbabwe and the UK. But photographers only have until 31st July 2009 to enter, so please remind all contacts, friends and colleagues to enter!
CIWEM’s international Environmental Photographer of the Year is open to all professional and amateur photographers worldwide. This year’s categories are Mott MacDonald’s Changing Climates; Black & Veatch’s World of Difference; Quality of Life; The Natural World; and Young Environmental Photographer of the Year (Under 21). It encourages entries that are contemporary, creative, experimental, resonant, original and beautiful. The judging panel is made up of some of the most respected environmental photographers in the industry, including
Gary Braasch, winner of the Ansel Adams Award for Conservation Photography, Anthony Epes and Ronnie Israel, as well as senior environmentalists including Lord Smith, the Chairman of the Environment Agency, and Nick Reeves, Executive Director of CIWEM.
Individual pieces of work will be judged on impact, creativity, composition, originality and technical abilities. Winners will share a prize fund of nearly £4,000 and all winning and highly commended entries will be displayed at the international Environmental Photographer of the Year Exhibition later this year.
